Elijia Dale Creech, 31, has been taken into custodyby authorities in St. Cloud, Minnesota, after a game of Magic: The Gathering led to a fight in which he stabbed his 20-year-old opponent multiple times in the face and neck.

Local police responded to a call just after midnight on July 28 fromCreech, saying that he had stabbed a man in his apartment and he was dying, according to the local Fox outlet. The victim was rushed to St. Cloud Hospital where he received treatment for substantial injuries, though none of them are thought to be life threatening.

The argument started during a match of popular trading card gameMagic: The Gathering and quickly escalated, resulting in Creech hitting the victim in the face with a rubber mallet and stabbing him seven times.

The local news outlet reports that the man had stab wounds all around his neck and on his cheek. Police issued a search warrant for Creech’s apartment after records showed he had a prior conviction for possession of an explosive with intent. Tests by the St. Cloud Fire Department of Hazardous Materials Response Team came back negative.

Creech is being held at a local jail under suspicion of first- and second-degree assault charges.
