In case you’ve been living under a rock, the two lovebirds met whilst filming season two of Game of Thrones in 2012 (where Leslie played Jon Snow’s on-screen love interest, the Wildling beauty Ygritte), and they have been inseparable ever since. Whilst Harington and Leslie’s romance on the show didn’t have a happy ending, it’s safe to say that their real-life love story has only gone from strength to strength – which makes a refreshing change from the unhappy couplings we are used to seeing in Westeros! 30-year-old Harington recently got down on one knee and popped the question to 30-year-old Leslie after the two moved into a $2.35 million mansion in East Anglia this January. They reportedly informed friends of their engagement last week. Even though Harington and Leslie have been dating for five years, their romance wasn’t confirmed until 2016, and since then we’ve seen the two publicly gush over each other making Game of Thrones fans around the world collectively say “Aww”. Who could forget when Harington said that he fell in love with Leslie whilst filming the show in Iceland? According to The Sun’s Bizarre, a source close to the couple has said, “They’re yet to set a date, but told friends and family last week that they’ve got engaged. Kit’s known for ages he’s wanted to marry Rose but he wanted them to get a house and settle down a bit first.” This is their incredible love story… Rumors of a romance between Harington and Leslie began to surface in 2012 when they were pictured in a restaurant holding hands. It was during this year that they filmed season two, which saw Jon Snow live amongst the Wildlings as a spy for the Night’s Watch. Jon ended up falling in love with Ygritte not only on the show, but in real life too. But Harington was quick to deny the romance whilst it was still in its infancy in March 2013 and said to reporters that they were just good friends who “hit it off very quickly when we first met.” Then, in August 2013, it was claimed that the two had broken up, even though their romance was never officially confirmed, The Stir reported. Harington went further denying the pair’s romance in May 2014 to The Standard, saying that it was “all rumor and myth”.

“On a serious level, I wouldn’t tell the press if I was in a relationship or not. I wouldn’t ever reveal that, because it takes you down a certain road… I have no desire to be courting the press with my love life. It’s not my job, it’s not who I am — and I actually think it’s more fun for everyone to speculate. The minute I start telling people things are true or not true, then it’s just boring.”

When Harington and Leslie’s relationship was confirmed last year, Harington was quick to praise Leslie, and recalled how the two fell in love:

“The three weeks in Iceland where we shot the second season… because the country is beautiful, the light of the North magic, and why it was there that I fell in love. If you are attracted to a person and in fiction is your love interest, it becomes easy to fall in love…”

It’s safe to say that more few Game of Thrones fans are sad now that Jon Snow is officially off the market. We wish all the very best to the happy couple.
