Mark Cuban: Trump travel ban ‘half-a**ed, half-baked’

(CNN)Billionaire businessman Mark Cuban on Tuesday night bashed President Donald Trump's controversial travel ban, saying he believes the plan will do more harm than good.

Asked by CNN's Erin Burnett on "OutFront" whether the ban would hurt the United States, the Dallas Mavericks owner and "Shark Tank" star responded, "Totally."

"Look, let's just be real clear," Cuban said, "the ban was half-assed and half-baked."

Trump signed an executive order Friday night to keep refugees from entering the country for 120 days and immigrants from seven predominantly Muslim nations out for three months.

Cuban criticized Trump over the rollout of the plan, saying, "It wasn't thought out, it was rushed, it was ridiculous. And when something like that happens, it calls into question the management skills of the guy in charge."

He questioned why countries were excluded from the ban, asking "if the goal was security, why would you leave off any other countries that hosted terrorism? That's like locking your front door and leaving all your windows open."

But Cuban does not believe this will force Trump supporters to change their tune. "If you supported him, and voted for him," he said, "you love him even more now."

Despite his repeated attacks on Trump during the campaign, Cuban said he reached out to Trump after he won the election, and remains willing to work with him. Cuban revealed, "I sent him a congratulatory email, got a thank you and that's been it."

"But I'm happy to help," he said, adding, "Look, he's our guy. I'm an American first. Everything else comes second."

War on drugs: Priest speaks out against Philippines ‘blood lust’

Manila, Philippines (CNN)"A life of sufferings, a life of killings. Is this the will of God?"

Father Amando Picardal does not flinch from the enormity of the question. As a priest in Metro Manila, he's confronted nightly with the bloodshed of President Rodrigo Duterte's drug war, which police say has now claimed more than 7,000 lives.

Picardal refuses to place that toll at God's doorstep.

He says there is a "blood lust" in the country, encouraged by propaganda, deceit and a President with "a messiah complex." At the Baclaran Church in the capital, he preaches against the killings.

Religion is an incredibly powerful force in this overwhelmingly Catholic country, and many of its adherents here attend Mass regularly.

"We have to put a stop to (the killings). Because if this continues it will destroy us as a country, as a nation," Picardal says.

Church 'full of shit'

This criticism from within the Catholic Church has not gone unnoticed by the notoriously outspoken President, with Duterte delivering an escalating set of verbal attacks against the Church in recent weeks.

Last week, he called it "full of shit," accusing bishops of corruption and womanizing during a speech to the family members of slain special forces.

According to CNN affiliate, CNN Philippines, he also said priests should help him by speaking out about addiction instead of attacking him on the issue of extrajudicial killings.

He brought up the child abuse scandals that have plagued the church, asking "What will you do about homosexuality in the seminary? What have you done to minors there?"

The Church still holds considerable influence in the Philippines, where government statistics show 80% of the country identifies as Roman Catholic.

The priest sees the President as lacking in compassion.

"By the end of his term, there will be over 70,000 people killed in this drug war," Picardal says, extrapolating the figures based on the current rate of killings.

"Most of them will be poor, most of them will be users, and the problems of poverty and country will still be there."

Asked whether he fears for his own life, Picardal says no, there is nothing they can they do to him that's worse than he has already faced. His experience with martial law, and the "people power" revolution that toppled it are forever written into his faith.

"In our darkest moments, martial law, we are never abandoned by God," he says.

He believes the Philippines is once against plunged into such darkness. But even now, as then, he has not lost hope.

OBAMACARE

The vote on Price will happen -- just not Tuesday after Democrats refused to show up for the committee vote.
Protests against the repeal of Obamacare on Capitol Hill resulted in the arrest of 47 protesters, according to organizers.
Obamacare enrollment ends late Tuesday night, perhaps for the last time ever. Signups are ahead of last year.
The Huffington Post spoke to an operator
on the Obamacare help line who reports, "It's heartbreaking, because we can't tell these people that it will be OK, because we don't know if it will be OK." The operator reports, however, that not everyone calling is panicking.
In Springfield, Illinois, the Obamacare fight has come between Rep. Rodney Davis, who wants to repeal Obamacare, and his sister, who spoke out in favor of Affordable Care Act at a rally. "We agree to disagree, and we're going to put family over politics," she said.
It looks like the Cassidy/Collins replacement plan is having a tough time winning over conservatives. The Federalist has "4 ways the Patient Freedom Act is worse than Obamacare."
Sen. Orrin Hatch told spoke to reporters about the Trump administration's role in crafting a plan to replace Obamacare: "I'm not quite sure what they're going to do. The administration ... I think that the leader and the two leaders of Congress are trying to come together on what we can do on a plan. I think the White House is kind of molding it and working with us."
Trump met with pharma CEOs and told them he wants to see lower drug prices. How? Press secretary Sean Spicer said at Tuesday's White House press conference that Trump's business and negotiating skills will make it happen.

IMMIGRATION

If Philadelphia wants to remain a "sanctuary city," it'll need to contend with more than Trump -- state legislators are also taking aim at the City of Brotherly Love. Philly's mayor thinks being a sanctuary city helps cut crime because undocumented witnesses are willing to come forward.

the administration is circulating drafts of additional executive actions that would change the visa process and target immigrants -- and potential immigrants -- who receive public assistance. India responded to the potential H1-B changes.

One of the countries on Trump's ban list, Iraq, is the sixth-biggest source of US oil imports. But the ban could damage wider American economic interests. About 6% of US trade is conducted with Muslim-majority countries. Iraq's Prime Minister said he won't retaliate against the US's travel ban.
