Poor hamster has a terrible time just trying to work on its fitness

Hamster running wheels typically only come with enough room for one hamster.

But one excited hamster thought it was a good idea to take the wheel from another hamster that had already been using it. Well, this hamster surely learned a good lesson. The first hamster reclaimed its wheel and sent the wheel-stealing hamster spinning.

The pet shop video was first shared by @_missmiranduh on Twitter last week, whose brother sent her the video.

If anyone's going to buy these little hamsters, they should probably go to separate families.

It's not a great time for cable companies, what with the cord cutting and competition and such.

Discovery Communications, which is home to cable channels like Discovery channel and Animal Planet, knows this, so they're bringing in some additional firepower.

Discovery announced on Monday that it would be buying Scripps Networks Interactive for $14.6 billion, adding a variety of major cable brands including HGTV, the Food Network and the Travel Channel.

The deal means Discovery would have almost 20 percent of total U.S. cable viewership.

Bigger is better in the cable world, particularly now. Companies like Discover get paid by distributors to carry its cable offerings. Those deals are subject to intense negotiations which have not been great for channel operators like Discovery. Fewer people subscribing combined with bigger distributors (which have more power in negotiations) have provided a brutal double-whammy on cable providers.

Cable companies, in turn, have been merging to keep pace with distributors. Monday's deal is yet another move to make a bigger company that's able to push back against distribution partners.

Then, there's the internet. Cable companies are still working on taking their brands online, where size is also important.

"The combined company will deliver 7 billion monthly short-form streams, bringing together Scripps established expertise in short-form video creation with Discoverys investment in Group Nine Media to create a new scale player with a strong ability to compete for audiences and ad dollars," Discovery noted in a press release announcing the deal.

New disciplined White House? Don’t count on it

(CNN)The latest shakeup of the White House staff was the inevitable product of a President who insists on governing by instinct, impulse, and informality.

Consider the short, tumultuous tenure -- and humiliating sequences of dismissals -- of ex-chief of staff Reince Priebus and ex-communications directors Sean Spicer and Anthony Scaramucci. They all got shown the door because Trump doesn't really want a true chief of staff and has reserved the job of communications director for himself.
The role of chief of staff was originally created by President Dwight D. Eisenhower and followed the military model in which a commanding general focuses on grand strategy and makes major decisions, leaving all lesser matters to a chief of staff. Eisenhower himself had served as chief of staff of the US Army, and as President appointed Sherman Adams to the White House position.
    While Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson chose not to name a single chief, James Pfiffner, an expert on the American government and presidency, wrote "someone short of the President must be in charge of coordinating the White House. No President has successfully run the White House without a chief of staff since 1968, and since 1979 no President has tried."
    Until now.
    Trump famously encourages rivalries within his staff. He named Priebus and Steve Bannon as co-equal advisors, neatly undercutting the authority of the role. The President also allows selected aides and cronies -- including White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, former Apprentice contestant Omarosa Manigault, and communications aide Hope Hicks -- to walk into the Oval Office whenever they choose.
    "I play it very loose. ... I try not to schedule too many meetings. I leave my door open," Trump wrote in "The Art of the Deal." "I prefer to come to work each day and just see what develops."
    That's supposed to come to an end with the appointment of Gen. John Kelly as Trump's next chief of staff. "All staff will report to him," White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters.
    Really?
    It's hard to imagine that Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, the President's daughter and son-in-law, will report to Kelly and surrender their walk-in privileges. And one wonders where Bannon and Conway will fit into the picture.
    It remains to be seen how, when, and whether Kelly can establish control over the other longtime Trump aides who currently drift in and out of the Oval Office.
    If Kelly oversteps his bounds, he could end up with Priebus in the unemployment line. As New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman observes: "There are two types of non-family members in Trumpworld. Permanents & instruments. Sometimes instruments mistakenly think they're permanents."
    And then there's the problem of the tweets.

    No amount of pleas, threats or ridicule have stopped Trump from personally issuing statements on social media that can contradict or undercut staff members -- or himself.
    As Spicer and Scaramucci learned the hard way, you can't direct communications for a President determined to treat White House messages as things to tweet in his spare time.
    President Trump might someday fit his leadership style to a traditional White House organizational chart. He might wake up one day and adopt the fundamental management principle that every employee can have only one boss. He might even realize that speaking to the nation and the world requires a daily, disciplined strategy.
    All those things might happen. But don't bet on it.

      Leading Venezuela opposition figure Leopoldo Lopez has been taken from his home, according to tweets from his wife.
      "They just took Leopoldo from the house. We do not know where he is or where he is being taken. Maduro is responsible if something happens to him," Lopez's wife Lilian Tintori tweeted early Tuesday morning.
      Lopez, who was released to house arrest in July, was taken from his home shortly after midnight, his wife said on social media. Tontori also posted video that she says shows her husband being taken away.
      It's not confirmed who took him or where he was taken, but the video posted by Tontori shows Lopez being driven away in a car marked "SEBIN" which is an abbreviation for the Venezuelan Intelligence Service.
      His detention, which began in early 2014 over accusations of inciting anti-government protests, had been a rallying cry for anti-regime demonstrators.
      Lopez had been under house arrest since early July.
      The move comes after a controversial election Sunday establishing a new legislative body made up entirely of President Nicolas Maduro supporters.

      Even members of Congress couldnt resist the temptation of comparing Westeros to real life before the premiere of the seventh season of Game of Thrones.

      Rep. Jamie Lannister Raskin (D-M.D.) had a fewchoice words to compare the Trump administration to the power players of the Seven Kingdoms.

      Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) also got in on the fun.

      3) ‘Secret deals with sworn enemies’

      Yep, even theNew York Times ran a Game of Thrones/Trump comparisonin an opinion article, not a reporter (this is important to note, all you #FakeNews folks out there)that made some compelling points.

      Heres how columnistMaureen Dowds piece opened:

      Wicked siblings willing to do anything for power. Secret deals with sworn enemies. The shock of a dead body. A Wall. Foreign bawds, guns for hire, and snakes. Back-stabbing, betrayal and charges of treason. Little birds spying and tattling. A maniacal mad king and his court of scheming, self-absorbed princesses and princelings, swathed in the finest silk and the most brazen immorality, ruling with total disregard for the good of their people.

      Sound familiar?

      Washington Post foreign affairs writerIshaan Tharoor also saw parallels betweenTrump and the characters ofGame of Thrones:

      Trump, it can be argued, is also an archetypicalmember of the Lannisterfamily: weaned on great wealth and driven by the single-minded goal of boosting his family name. Or you could say that his apocalyptic view of the worldis similar to thezeal ofthe cult of the Red God. For Trump, who sees a mess in every issue and chaos lurking behind every corner, the night is truly dark and full of terrorsand, incidentally, he seeks to expunge America’s enemieswith fire.

      4) ‘Petulant and irrational’

      Fans of both the book series and TV show have long cracked jokes about Trump mirroring the teenage tyrant King Joffreybut A Song of Ice and Fire authorGeorge R.R. Martin, the series’ visionary and co-executive producer, made it clear: The comparisons are correct.

      I think Joffrey is now the king in America, Martintold Esquire in May. And hes grown up just as petulant and irrational as he was when he was 13 in the books.

      5) ‘The real world surprises more and terrifies more than the fictional world’

      Pilou Asbk, who plays Game of ThronesvillainEuron Greyjoy, was asked by Variety about comparisons that have been made between his characterwho makes grand claims to convince his fellow Iron Born that he is the only leader who can lead them to gloryand Trump.

      Asbk clearly didnt want to make any direct comparisons between his character and Trump, but he had some interesting things to say.

      One is a fictional world and one is the real world. Again and again the real world surprises more and terrifies more than the fictional world. To compare Euron Greyjoy to the American president, its tough. I did it once in a tweet a year ago. It was a tweet I did for fun. But now the world has changed a lot. Im not a wise man on the American political situation. I just hope the American people are happy. So Im not going to compare Euron to Donald Trump. Im just going to wish you guys luck.

      6) ‘Winter is Trumping’

      Besides masterfully weaving Trump quotes into some of the major moments of the show, the video is able to touch on Trumps favorite themes like immigration, loyalty, a border wall, and his own image.

      Seriously, just watch it.

      Susan Collins Was So Touched By Response To Her Health Care Vote: It Was Amazing”

      When the Republican attempt to repeal and replace Obamacare with a so-called skinny bill went under on Friday morning, it was Arizona Senator John McCain who took a lot of the credit for his surprise no vote. And yet, it was two Republican women who decided the vote's ultimate fate. Senators Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine consistently voted against attempts to open the bill for debate, as well as against other iterations of the attempt to repeal and replace.

      And her constituents recognized her for it. When she flew back to her home state on the Friday after the vote, she was greeted at the Bangor, ME airport with a round of applause. Speaking on CNN on Sunday, July 30, Collins said that the moment was extraordinary, heartwarming, and affirming.

      Collins said that the moment was spontaneous, as some people began to clap, and slowly others joined in. With a smile on her face, she described the scene:

      I got off the plane and there was a large group of outbound passengers, none of whom I happened to know. And spontaneously, some of them started applauding, and then virtually all of them started to applaud. It was just amazing. I've never had the happen in to 20 years that I've been privileged to serve in the Senate. So it was very encouraging and affirming.

      That's right Collins literally got a slow clap for her vote against the skinny bill.

      The moment went viral on Twitter on Friday.

      The photo of Collins smiling, surrounded by applaudigsupporters at the airport has beenretweeted more than 14,000 times.

      Collins was one of two consistent nos on the health care votes.

      Collins, along with Alaska's Murkowski, were stubborn holdouts against all attempts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA), nicknamed Obamacare. Both senators voted against opening the bill to debate at all, as well as all three attempts to repeal the ACA, the only two Republicans to do so. They bothsaid that they had major concerns about the effort to replace Obamacare, specifically citing language to defund Planned Parenthoodand changes to Medicaid.

      And despite coming under fire from Republican colleagues, the president, and even threats from administration officials, they stuck to their guns. It looks like their constituents appreciate it.

      The White House wants the Senate to halt everything else until a health care bill is passed

      It appears as if Donald Trump‘s administration isnt ready to give up on healthcare just yet.

      On Sunday, White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney said Senate Republicans should not move forward with any new votes until a healthcare repeal or replacement bill is passed, insisting it wouldnt be acceptable for the GOP to fail to follow through on such a longstanding promise to its base.

      In the White House’s view, they can’t move on in the Senate, Mulvaney told CNNs Jake Tapper on Sunday morning. In the peoples view, they shouldnt move on in the Senate. They should stay and work and figure out a way to solve this problem. Keep in mind, youre talking about something theyve promised to do for seven years. You can’t promise folks you’re going to do something for seven years, and then not do it.

      Contrary to Mulvaney’s remark that “the people” want action on healthcare, all the proposals that congressional Republicans have put forward so far have been massively unpopular, with some polling below 20 percent approval, an almost unheard-of figure in themodern age of hyper-polarized politics.

      Thecomments also echoed those of Trump, albeit in a more diplomatic tone. On Saturday afternoon, less than 48 hours after the GOP Senates skinny repeal bill failed in a dramatic floor vote, Trump tweeted that Republicans would be total quitters to give up on health care now.

      Trump continued the pep talk on Sunday morning.

      Mulvaney also confirmed that the White Houses official position is that no other votes should occur before healthcare, even if a bill isnt passed by the time the debt ceiling needs to be raised. In other words, the administration is arguing that the U.S. should go into default rather than move on from healthcare. After the Obamacare repeal failed early Friday morning, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said it was time for his party to move on from trying to reform healthcare.

      White House counselor Kellyanne Conway also weighed in on the healthcare process on Sunday, tellingFox News Sundaythat Trump is currently considering whether to halt crucialpayments to insurance companies that have been integral to Obamacare. Known as Cost Sharing Reduction payments, or CSRs for short, the federal government halting such payouts would have a damaging effect on the overall health of the law, as well as the ability of low-income Americans to receive care.

      Many Democrats and progressives fear such a move, insisting that Trump and the GOP might try to deliberately sabotage Obamacare, forcing its failure in order to reap political advantage. For Trump’s part, at least, he hasn’t been particularly shy about wanting to see the American healthcare system fail; he’s repeatedlysaidthat the best political strategy would be to “let Obamacare implode,”as recently as Friday.
