The wild, wacky week of Anthony Scaramucci

Few humans have gone from generic rich person to household name as quickly as Anthony Scaramucci has.

The man was announced as the new White House communications director only a week ago, and he has already ratcheted Trump administration infighting up to 10 and given the wildest political interview in recent memory.

We went back over the wild week in Scaramucci, below.

Delete them tweets

Scaramucci waited just a touch too long to start deleting tweets after his new job was announced on July 21. Journalists immediately realized the man was purging old tweets that were critical of Trump, but he didn't get there in time.

The introduction

Scaramucci spent his first moment at the White House podium saying "I love the president" four times and generally praising members of the White House staff, even if one of them had just resigned as a result of his hiring and another had tried to prevent him from getting the job. Of course, as we would all soon learn, Scaramucci's public praise varies quite differently from what the man says when he thinks he's speaking in private.

One thing we can all perhaps admire, though, is how much he seems to have studied his boss's body language.

Where there's a leak there's fire

On Tuesday, Scaramucci said he's "going to fire everybody" in the White House press operation. An exaggeration, perhaps, but he's made clear his intent to go after leakers: "Youre either going to stop leaking or youre going to be fired."

He attempted to fire Assistant Press Secretary Michael Short on Tuesday, but when that didn't go as planned, Short just resigned.

Disclosure form frenzy

Scaramucci's publicly available financial disclosure form was published by Politico on Wednesday, and the new comms director was immediately convinced someone had leaked the information.

Someone like, uh, White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus?

Scaramucci tweeted then deleted the following after the form's publication:

"In light of the leak of my financial disclosure info which is a felony," he wrote, "I will be contacting @FBI and the @TheJusticeDept #swamp @Reince45"

As I mentioned earlier, the White House's most open secret is the feud between Priebus and Scaramucci, and that tweet appears to be a not-so-veiled threat to report Priebus to the FBI.

But, again, this is not a felony, and the reporter who wrote abut the financial disclosure form didn't get it from anyone at the White House anyway.

That wild-ass interview

Then there was Thursday.

Whew.

Just before Scaramucci sent that threatening tweet, he had evidently been on the phone with The New Yorker's Ryan Lizza, who published the contents of their conversation last night.

What follows is a sampling of quotes from the article, quotes that most journalists will never come close to hearing in any interview they have:

  • Reince is a fucking paranoid schizophrenic, a paranoiac," he said, referring to Priebus.

  • The swamp will not defeat him, he said, in which the "him" refers to Scaramucci himself.

  • Im not Steve Bannon, Im not trying to suck my own cock."

  • What I want to do is I want to fucking kill all the leakers and I want to get the presidents agenda on track so we can succeed for the American people."

  • O.K., the Mooch showed up a week ago, referring to himself by his nickname.

Apology lol

Scaramucci is a part of the Trump team now, so it's the reporter's fault.
