Grand Theft Auto remains one of the best-selling and controversial gaming franchises ever designed. It’s one of those titles that is every bit as iconic as older games like Super Mario Bros, Pac-Man, and Space Invaders. Everyone has heard of it, most people have played at least one iteration of the series, and you can guarantee that when a new instalment is released that eager gamers will queue (literally) round the block to get their hands on a new copy.
It’s tricky to say what exactly makes the sandbox crime simulator so appealing. Maybe it’s Dundee-based developer Rockstar’s wry and satirical sense of dark humour, maybe it’s the attention to detail, incredible graphics and intuitive user interface. Or maybe it’s just the feeling of anarchic freedom that they provide. You can chose to be a goody two-shoes, a criminal mastermind, a stealthy cat burglar, or more likely, a rampaging lunatic. It’s simply up to you. The last game to be released was the best-selling GTA V, which came out on the Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC respectively in 2013. V was renowned for itsthreeplayable protagonists, where players had the freedom to switch between any member of the trio during gameplay, along with the heist missions. However, after four years with no new information on the series, it sudden seemed as though Rockstar has now accidentally spilled the beans about the development of the sixth instalment. What gave the game away was apparently an actor’s resum, and yet if you dig a little deeper then it turns out that these reports are actually false. It was initially reported that the cv of motion capture actor Tim Neffsresum literally gave the game away, when a screenshot circulated numerous gaming forums which reportedly showed credits on “Grand Theft Auto 6” and Red Dead Redemption.Large studios like Rockstar often develop multiple games at the same time and fans who had long been starved of information were overjoyed at the prospect of a new game in the works. However, Business Insider soon put those hopes to rest, when they pointed out that it was unusual that the game was entitled “Grand Theft Auto 6” and rendered with a number, not a roman numeral, as is the case with the other games. They reached out to Neff, who had since been inundated with messages from those who wanted more info about the game, who confirmed that the resum that had been circulating the net was a fake.
Neff tweeted, “Yeah it’s super fake. Trolls …The main issue is I don’t even have a breakdownexpress account so I don’t know who made that.” So there we have it, it seems as though we’ll have to wait for an official confirmation from Rockstar games before we learn anything new about the upcoming GTA. Until then however, obsessive fans will probably still continue to comb through the internet in search of a few precious clues regarding the release date. Until then, you’ll just have to be patient, and enjoy the games we already have.
