O.J Simpson is undoubtably one of America’s most notorious sports stars, but his extreme fame was garnered for all the wrong reasons. The now 70-year-old NFL hero has lived a large portion of his life behind bars, after two high-profile criminal trials, which saw ‘The Juice’ being declared bankrupt.

His sensational story first turned sinister in 1994, when the Hall of Fame star was accused of the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend, Ron Goldman. In what became known as “the trial of the century”, Simpson was acquitted of the murders in front of a television audience of an estimated 100 million people. Over the next 12 years, Simpson was embroiled in a number of other legal troubles. But, these were eclipsed in 2007, when the sports star, turned actor, was arrested for armed robbery in Las Vegas. During the robbery, a group of men, led by Simpson stole sports memorabilia at gunpoint. Instantly, a media circus engulfed the case, reporting its every detail. Despite Simpson’s lawyers best efforts, the disgraced star was sentenced to 33 years in prison at Lovelock Correctional Center in Nevada. However, on October 1, Simpson was released after serving just nine years of his sentence. Naturally, the release of the sporting legend, sparked intense media interest. So much so, that the Nevada Department of Corrections had to carefully plan his release. Simpson left Lovelock at 12:08.a.m. on Sunday, after a decoy van had already gone ahead to entice reporters and paparazzi away from the prison, before the release of the real O.J. Despite the careful planning, several reporters were present at the moment of ‘The Juice’s’ release and were able to capture the moment… They were able to talk to the convicted criminal, before he was taken away into the Las Vegas night. What he had to say will surprise you… After five hours in his transport vehicle, Simpson was caught by cameras at a gas station. As the cameras descend, a clearly irritated Simpson turns to the lens to ask “Y’all stalking me?” before adding, “Jesus man” with a chuckle. Persistent, the reporters then ask where he was headed, which O.J. explosively replied: “None of your business.” When asked how it felt to be free, a frustrated Simpson retorted: “I’ve been in the car for the last five hours, so how do I know what it feels like to be out?” But before he could escape, he had one last message to say: “Nothing has changed in my life. I mean, you guys, what do you expect?” he asked, looking at the cameras, “I mean, there’s nothing changed. Please can I have a break now.” Speaking before Simpson’s release, his attorney, Malcolm LaVergne, told ABC News that Simpson plans to go to Florida so that he can “see his family and hug his family on the outside of prison.” “He wants to eat seafood, he wants to eat steak,” LaVergne said. “He wants to enjoy the very simple pleasures that he hasn’t enjoyed in nine years.” However, Florida’s Attorney General, Pam Bondi is publicly objecting Simpson’s planned relocation to the state. “I’ve handled parole hearings my entire time as a prosecutor and … I have never seen such lack of remorse in my entire career,” Bondi told Fox and Friends. “Other than his complete lack of remorse, he wants to come to Florida and golf all over our state, and I don’t want that to happen.” It is believed that O.J. is planning to live with his longtime friend Tom Scotto. Scotto appeared to confirm this when he told ABC News: “All he wants to do is spend time with his family and friends and his kids. And play a little golf.” He also declared: “We’re not gonna hide,” Scotto said: “He’s going to do the same things he always did.” This only infuriated Bondi, who blasted: “His buddy who he wants to live with is still tweeting jokes about, ‘The Juice is on the loose.’” Time will only tell what Simpson’s future holds. However, for now it certainly appears that he won’t be able to “act the same” as he did before. Despite 22 years having passed since the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, there is still a public interest in the case with many still convinced that Simpson is the culprit. No doubt, Simpson’s time as a free man will be nothing like he imagined. Watch this space!
